Thank you to all our customers' ongoing support.

Without every single one of our customers, this small business could not succeed. Thank you truly for all your support in 2023.

More than anything as I move into 2024, I want to set out how our services will be changing.

I have some big aspirations for Makepeace & Massage

I wish to develop a service that offers more value than ever to clients and those looking to understand a path out of chronic pain.

At the heart of our service has always been:

  • Deep listening to an individual’s experiences

  • A place to discuss the circumstances you are coming in with.

  • A place to voice worries or concerns.

  • A non-judgement space to be heard

  • A collaborative approach with mutual respect and consent at it's heart

  • An openness to health based information and their possible explanations

  • An offer of an adaptable plan to incrementally move out of chronic pain

  • An offer of a guide and facilitator to move forwards

  • A deep sense of commitment to our customers

  • An offer to make sense of your current situation and help inform & guide you out of pain.

  • A willingness on our part to be wrong, to learn and to grow from reflection

A sense making journey is the heart of recovering from chronic pain

"At the heart of a journey out of chronic pain is a sense making journey."

A sense making journey is very much what it sounds like.

It requires several things:

  • Quality evidenced based information

  • Facilitation and support

  • An agreed plan utilising that information, to move out of pain

Makepeace & Massage in 2024

Our Current Services offer:

A purpose built treatment room in West Hagbourne, UK

Since 2020 we have offered all of our services from our premises, currently in a purpose built treatment room in West Hagbourne, South Oxfordshire, UK.

The full range of soft tissue techniques with an adaptable open approach

We pride ourselves on offering all the latest techniques relating to soft tissue work with a truly flexible and open approach.

You won’t hear me locked into a treatment modality that beats all the others.

I have trained in the full range from one extreme of deep tissue work, to the other extreme of light myofascial release and craniosacral therapies.

There isn’t a right way to do things.

We apply techniques specifically to the person in front of us who walks in, in alignment with their goals and their wishes.

More pressure isn’t better, period, but sometimes it does help. Other times it’s about truly listening to a person and facilitating their body and system from a space of change.

Quality musculoskeletal information & education during treatments to make sense of experiences.

In our current services we offer this information freely in the room so to speak.

Inside Makepeace & Massage Treatment room

We’ve had great success with this system!

It’s always a little scary to change especially when our current recipe for delivering musculoskeletal pain relief is successful.

It’s tempting to talk about the sensational client successes, working with footballers who suspected a ligament tear in their knee, only 6 weeks later to have rehabilitated the issue with sheer determination and be ready to start the return to game play!

Or working with challenging nerve grafts weekly for over a year and see function returning against the odds! This particular case has been hard won, but so fulfilling to everyone involved.

No case will ever be too simple, or not worth our time.

I truly believe that everyone deserves the right of more rest, more places to be present with themselves, and more places to find a healing space in their body and mind.

It’s a gift that I think spreads wide and far.

I often think of the R value of kindness (~5). The R value of pain relief I believe can’t be that far behind and spreads through to better, kinder and happier relationships.

"Peace in ourselves, peace in the world" - Thict Naht Hahnn

I truly believe we can cultivate, piece by piece, a little more peace in the world, together.

So how are we changing?

We believe something is still missing

Whilst we believe that hands on services and building human connection are the magic sauce when something won’t shift, where we can offer a place to be heard and an opportunity to start to heal in these restorative practices…

We want to offer quality online health information and advice

We want to offer remote access to quality health information additional to our current services.

To help support you, our community, inside and outside of the treatment room.

A place where you could log in and access quality health information to help you empower yourself out of a tricky spot.

We want to offer evidence-based health information

So that more than ever you can be empowered on a journey to better health both within and outside of the treatment setting.

We want to build an online supportive community full of compassion

Supporting more people further afield through quality health information to help in the world around us.

Just a little lofty goal!

What can you look out for, in 2024?

A fortnightly release of a blog post

This will be on a topic related to how the body works, how to recover from an injury or pathology musculoskeletally, and what to avoid in the dos and don’t of sports and general health

Coupled with a podcast episode to bring the information to life

Let’s face it, not everyone has the time or particularly likes reading a perhaps drier subject.

I’ve got some fantastic guests lined up and a fortnightly staple co-host, whom I am so excited to be working with from the world of personal training for rehabilitation specific clients.

A hope to engage with clients in the room and discuss that fortnight's topic!

Beyond 2024 with Big Dreams…

Looking out into the larger future, we would like to offer:

  • Courses on common recovery strategies for sports injuries & common setbacks

  • A community structured approach where you can connect to others like yourself who are in the thick of it to cheer each other on through the challenge.

  • A hub of empowering resources in our area too

  • Connecting clients with expert practitioners in fields that help to produce a multidisciplinary approach to health.

  • An open minded collaborative approach connecting body-based science, therapies and the arts.

It’s a big dream, but an exciting one too.

Our pledge to you

Our aims are to be factual and open minded and to self-correct when we’re wrong.

One study recently showed that information freely available online much like the very thing I am proposing is over half of the time outdated and incorrect in the industry of musculoskeletal health.

That statistic is in my opinion incredibly challenging and we will very much be trying to address it.

We aspire to be:

  • Open minded to new information and research

  • Adaptable and to correct something, that later is proven to be wrong

  • To challenge our own beliefs and update them when we find conflicting evidence.

  • To continuously strive to learn and grow

  • To digest the information, debate it and show the many sides of an idea

  • To be as concise and clear as possible

  • To empower our audience with quality, clear and concise information

  • To produce community driven help and support to build a happier healthier world.

The very best of health to you & your family
