Step 6: Ongoing Treatment & support

Learning to be with pain and move forwards isn't done in 1 hour alone.

Learning to be with pain is not done in 1 hour treatment, it needs ongoing support.

Whilst we can get significant pain reduction in the first treatment because we have truly taken the time to listen on multiple levels to the pain you experience.

Repeating this positive stimulus is extremely powerful in deepening the rewiring that occurs in the feel & experience of pain both in the brain and the body.

A info graphic with a the shape of brain represented as connecting lines, with the caption "Repeating this positive stimulus is extremely powerful in deepening the rewiring that occurs in the feel & experience of pain both in the brain and the body." The quote is describing the process of manual therapy treatment and why it can be so powerful in overcoming pain in an individual.
This is why manual therapies that listen into you, your body, & how your nervous system is presenting are so important in changing our pain states.

The duration, intensity and frequency of the pain experience matters when moving into chronic pain, amplifying it time & time again.

To lessen the pain, it is crucial for a constant frequency of putting time into positive experiences for the mind and the body.

Most of the people I see, are in pain after the point in time where the tissue has physically connected & filled in any tear that was once present.
This means that fascial restrictions & nervous system responses like fight & flight are likely the culprits...

A picture of fascia that connects and wraps every cell in our bodies at multiple sizes of organised tissues. It truly is the connective tissue, and is highly entwined with our nervous system's perception of self.
Fascia connects and wraps every cell in our bodies at multiple sizes of organised tissues. It truly is THE connective tissue, and is highly entwined with our nervous system's perception of self & our embodied experience.

In these situations the fascia, or connective tissues, have normally contracted due to the severity of the pain initially and their ongoing experience.

The physical treatment releases this contraction restoring normal motion to parts of the body that have been physically traumatised.

Trauma informed approaches, like cranio-sacral therapies, recognise shock and trauma that has been hardwired into the nervous and hormonal systems.

A head shot of someone that's blurred side to side holding their neck as if they're experiencing whiplash with the caption "recognise shock and trauma that's been hardwired into the nervous system".
Not only whiplash but also emotional and psychological shocks can affect us, causing our bodies to keep perceiving external threats and reacting to environments negatively that may be safe. Bringing this understanding to treatment means we can let go of this pattern very slowly and gently so you can move forwards.

Recognition of these processes through manual treatment can be exceptionally powerful.

Please read further on about integrating therapies and resourcing through Makepeace & massage.

Most clients receive significant pain relief between 1-6 treatments.

Longer term issues may require longer timescales.

For every individual, included within their first appointment summary is a professional recommendation.

This is a suggestion of how many sessions are likely needed to move from pain relief, to confronting the underlying cause and for maintenance care.

I deeply recognise that an individual’s time, energy, resources, and speed is deeply personal.

I am very happy to work with you within your constraints.
